Who will be in England's squad for Euro 2020?

This summer will mark 65 years since England won their one and only major tournament, the 1966 World Cup. Following on from a mostly successful World Cup in Russia in 2018, expectations will be a lot higher in next Summer’s Euros. With the later stages of the tournament being played at Wembley, many of the players will see it as an emulate the legends of 1966. The big question is, just who those players will be.

Goalkeepers

Jordan Pickford –

England’s current first choice Goalkeeper. Pickford impressed for England at the 2018 World Club but has come in for criticism for some of his performances with Everton.

Dean Henderson –

Henderson impressed on loan at Sheffield United last season and has now returned to Old Trafford. He must overtake David De Gea as United’s Number One Goalkeeper to be certain of a place in England’s squad next summer.

Nick Pope -

Aaron Ramsdale –

Fraser Forster –

Defenders

Harry Maguire –

Trent Alexander-Arnold –

Ben Chilwell –

Joe Gomez –

James Tarkowski –

Midfielders

Jordan Henderson –

James Maddison –

Phil Foden –

Jude Bellingham –

This would be another interesting addition to the squad. A decision to include Bellingham would ultimately depend on how often times he features for Borussia Dortmund during the season.

Forwards

Harry Kane -

Kane is certain, injury permitting, to be in the squad. For all his personal and individual success, he has yet to win a major trophy. Could the European Championships be his first major honour?

Jadon Sancho -

Marcus Rashford -

Raheem Sterling -

Mason Greenwood -

Dominic Calvert-Lewin -

Danny Ings -

Ings had an amazing 2019/2020 season, scoring 25 goals in 42 appearances. Another season like that will put him in the frame for a place in England’s 23-man squad. He does currently only have 2 England caps, so it remains to be seen if he’s fancied by Gareth Southgate.

Joe Gelhardt –

A player to certainly look out for this season but will he make enough appearances to be in contention for the squad? Gelhardt made 20 appearances for Wigan in the Championship last season and impressed enough for Leeds to sign him ahead of their first season back in the Premier League. He has already made 6 appearances for the England Under 18’s side, scoring 4 times.
